Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a series of high-level meetings at his office on Tuesday, focusing on major infrastructure projects and welfare initiatives aimed at boosting economic growth and supporting the state’s workforce.
The meetings included the establishment of a Special Development Zone for services at Sarusajai. The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of the upcoming Capital Complex in Dibrugarh, which is set to become a major administrative and economic hub for Upper Assam.
Additionally, Chief Minister assessed the ongoing construction of the Assam House in Dwarka, Delhi, which is being built to offer comfortable accommodation and support for state officials and residents visiting the national capital. The meetings also included discussions on promoting entrepreneurship among college students in Assam.
Meanwhile, the recently held Assam Cabinet meeting approved several significant welfare initiatives, including the rollout of the Chief Minister’s Jibon Prerna Scheme, set to launch in October 2025. This scheme will provide monthly financial support of Rs. 2,500 for one year to eligible graduates who are permanent residents of the state. Research scholars from public universities in Assam will receive a one-time financial assistance of Rs. 20,000, while specially-abled scholars will be eligible for Rs. 40,000.
Additionally, the cabinet approved a reduction in the registration fees for cooperative societies, bringing the cost down from 1% to 0.5% of their proposed authorized share capital. This move aims to make it more affordable for new cooperatives to register and strengthen the cooperative sector in the state.
