Assam CM took stock of the site and announced that a new industrial project is being planned at the location.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the premises of the defunct sugar mill at Dergaon in Golaghat district on Monday morning. The mill, which has remained non-functional since 1996, occupies a 554 bigha plot of government land.

CM Sarma took stock of the site and announced that a new industrial project is being planned at the location. His visit has sparked fresh hope among locals who have long awaited development in the area after nearly three decades of industrial inactivity.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said, “After Advantage Assam 2.0, many businesses from various industries have been enquiring about land. On Sunday, we already allocated land for two new industrial units, and there are many more to come.”

He emphasised the importance of ensuring that government land remains unoccupied and ready for future development.

CM Sarma also hinted at the possibility of holding a cabinet meeting in Dergaon, depending on the situation. “Once the flood season is over, we will hold a full cabinet meeting in Golaghat or Dergaon to deliberate on key issues,” he added.

The move is being seen as a major push for development in Assam.
