The Assam government is ensuring that a majority of the investments take off in 2025-26
Amid the Rongali (Bohag) Bihu festivities, the main festival of the Assamese people as it marks the beginning of the Assamese New Year, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is taking out time to meet top officials of leading Indian firms who had promised investments worth several crores of rupees during the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit that was held in February this year in Guwahati.
After meeting Jeet Adani, Director Airports of the Adani Group, Chief Minister Sarma met top officials of Vedanta Group and Greenko Group, and discussed the way forward for the roll out of the Rs 72,000 crore investment that both the Groups had promised during the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit.
Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal had promised Rs 50,000 crore investment in the oil and gas sector and the Greenko Group had announced an investment of Rs 12,000 crore in power projects.
Taking to X, Assam CM wrote, “There is no better start to Bohag than ensuring that commitments made in the previous year are fulfilled. And it’s so gratifying. At #AdvantageAssam2 we received investment commitments of ₹5.19 lakh crore, of which the Vedanta Group has set a target of investing ₹50,000 cr in the State. Today I had an extensive meeting with representatives from Vedanta to chalk out a time frame on realising these investments, particularly in the field of energy exploration and drilling. We are according the highest priority to ensure that a majority of the big ticket investment proposals take off this fiscal. @AnilAgarwal_Ved @Vedanta_Group”
“With such an investment, we will produce 1,00,000 barrels of oil and gas per day, making the region a dominant hydrocarbon hub. It will also create direct and indirect employment opportunities for 1 lakh youths,” the CM said.
In another tweet, the CM wrote, “Had a productive follow up meeting with the Greenko Group on their investment commitments made during #AdvantageAssaam2 We are expecting work to commence on over ₹12,000 cr of power related projects before the year. One such effort is North East’s first Pump Storage Project (PSP), a new hydroelectric storage system to ensure grid stability and meet peak power demand. @GreenkoIndia”
