Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, currently on a three-day visit to South Korea as part of a broader five-day trip to South Korea and Japan, is actively engaging with global investors to highlight the state’s potential. His visit is focused on attracting investments ahead of the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, scheduled to take place in Guwahati next month.
On his South Korea visit, CM Sarma met Kyungsung Kang, the President of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), in Seoul.
Taking to social media, he expressed his satisfaction with the discussions, stating they explored avenues for collaboration in trade, commerce, industry, and skill development. Sarma noted the shared strategy between Assam and KOTRA aims to foster growth and mutual benefits for businesses in both regions.
CM Sarma wrote, “I had an excellent discussion with Mr Kyungsung Kang, the President of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and his team in Seoul today. We discussed a shared strategy to explore avenues of partnership for growth and development in fields of trade, commerce, industry, and skills for mutual benefits of Assam and Korean businesses.”
Earlier in the day, the Assam Chief Minister addressed an investment roadshow in Seoul, organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in South Korea. The event saw the participation of 140 Korean business leaders, who lauded Sarma’s presentation on Assam’s prospects as a promising business destination.
Sarma highlighted India’s position as the world’s fastest-growing major economy and showcased Assam’s unique advantages as a gateway to Southeast Asia. He emphasised the state’s potential to serve as a strategic anchor in advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Act East Policy.
Taking to social media, the Chief Minister shared his optimism, stating, “The enthusiasm of the Korean business leaders towards being a part of Advantage Assam 2 is phenomenal.” He added that the Korean business community was impressed by the opportunities Assam offers to access the Indian market.
CM Sarma’s international outreach is part of the preparations for the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit. In addition to South Korea and Japan, Sarma conducted a roadshow in Bhutan last month and is expected to visit Singapore soon. These efforts aim to position Assam as an emerging hub for investment and industrial development.
Earlier, the Chief Minister met ambassadors from 36 countries in New Delhi, further highlighting Assam’s potential. With a focus on trade, commerce, and industry, Sarma’s global engagements underline the state’s ambition to become a powerhouse in the economic landscape of India and Southeast Asia.
This multi-nation campaign signals Assam’s readiness to attract global investments and establish itself as a key player in India’s economic growth.
