The girl had allegedly been molested multiple times by her teacher, triggering a storm of public outrage across the district.

A horrifying incident has come to light from Dhola in Assam’s Tinsukia district, where a 14-year-old girl studying in Class 9 died by suicide on Saturday. The girl had allegedly been molested multiple times by her teacher, Vriku Chetry, triggering a storm of public outrage across the district.

Sources said that the girl had attempted suicide once earlier, on June 3. Doctors had managed to save her life. Following the incident, police arrested the accused teacher on June 11 after a formal complaint was lodged by the victim’s family.

However, the trauma reportedly continued to haunt her. On July 6, the minor was found hanging at her residence. Her death has sent shockwaves across the region and sparked widespread condemnation, with several organisations demanding immediate and severe action against the accused.

Sources added that the teacher allegedly gave the girl sleeping pills before molesting her on multiple occasions.

This case has once again raised serious concerns about child safety within schools and the need for stronger monitoring and reporting systems. Authorities have promised strict action and said the matter is being closely monitored.
