In a first, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that a special one-day session of the Assam Assembly’s Budget session will be held in Kokrajhar next year.

He confirmed that either the Budget presentation by the Finance Minister or the Governor’s address will take place in Kokrajhar, marking a significant step towards fulfilling a long-held aspiration of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) residents.

He said, “We wish to have a significant session in Kokrajhar – either the Budget speech by the Finance Minister or the Governor’s address.”

Sarma also confirmed that the Panchayat elections in the state will be completed by February 10, 2025.

Speaking about the recent bye-election results, Sarma highlighted the significant victories achieved by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) across five assembly constituencies.

Notably, Sarma pointed to the historic win in the Samaguri seat, where the BJP reclaimed the seat from Congress after 25 years, signalling a major shift in local political dynamics.

Emphasizing the party’s strategy, Sarma reiterated the BJP’s motto of “Appeasement to none, justice to all,” reaffirming its commitment to fairness for all communities. He particularly focused on the party’s outreach to minority communities, stressing that the BJP will continue engaging with them for broader support.

On national security, Sarma reiterated that no government should compromise on the issue of infiltration, further strengthening the BJP’s stance on protecting Assam’s borders. The Chief Minister expressed confidence in the party’s strong performance in upcoming elections, signalling optimism for the future political landscape in Assam.
