Assam: Assam has emerged as the third-fastest growing state in India, with a GDP growth rate of 7.94% at constant prices.
In a significant economic development, Assam has emerged as the third-fastest growing state in India, with a GDP growth rate of 7.94% at constant prices. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the news on social media, calling it a testament to the state’s focused developmental policies and sustained efforts across sectors.
The Chief Minister credited Assam’s remarkable progress to pro-investor policies and continued investments in infrastructure, institutions, and individuals. “A few years ago, this was unthinkable,” he remarked, reflecting on the state’s transformation.
Government data highlights the sharp rise in the state’s economic indicators. In 2023–24, Assam’s per capita GSDP at current prices is estimated at Rs 1,58,807 a 19% increase over the previous year. In comparison, India’s per capita GDP for the same period stands at Rs 2,15,935.
Assam has consistently outperformed the national average in recent years.
According to data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Assam recorded a GSDP growth of approximately 13.4% in FY 2021–22 against India’s 8.7%. In FY 2022–23, Assam saw an estimated 9.1% growth, compared to India’s 7.2%. For FY 2023–24, Assam is projected to maintain its high single-digit growth rate, likely outpacing the national average again.
This surge in growth positions Assam as a key player in India’s economic landscape, showcasing how strategic planning and sustained investment can drive regional development.
