The Cabinet also approved Rs 843 crore for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) for the financial year 2025–26

In a landmark decision to enhance connectivity and promote tourism in Assam’s hill districts, the state government has cleared a massive Rs 3,875 crore road infrastructure project for Dima Hasao. This marks the highest-ever investment in the district’s development.

The project, announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma following a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, involves the construction and upgradation of 348 kilometers of roads across five strategic routes. These roads are expected to be developed to national highway standards.

“In Dima Hasao, five roads have been identified for potential upgradation to national highway specifications. This initiative will significantly strengthen connectivity and unlock the tourism potential of the region,” CM Sarma said.

He further highlighted that the Rs 3,875 crore investment reflects the government’s commitment to uplifting the hill district. “This is the largest road development initiative we’ve undertaken for Dima Hasao. Implementation will commence once the current flood situation improves,” he added.

The funding for the project will be shared between the Centre and the state, with the Central Government contributing 80 percent and the Assam Government covering the remaining 20 percent.

In a separate move, the Cabinet also approved Rs 843 crore for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) for the financial year 2025–26. The allocation is aimed at driving developmental works and boosting socio-economic progress across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

These measures are expected to play a transformative role in advancing infrastructure and inclusive growth in Assam’s underserved regions.
