Arunachal’s Para Athlete Techi Sonu to Represent India at Sharjah International Para Athletics C’ship 2025

Techi Sonu's selection for the Sharjah Championship is a first of its kind as he will be the first para-athlete to participate.

Arunachal Pradesh’s renowned para-athlete, Techi Sonu, has been selected by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) to represent the nation at the prestigious Sharjah International Para Athletics Championship 2025. The event will take place from February 2 to 4, 2025, in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, and is hosted by Althiqah Club for the Disabled, sanctioned by World Para Athletics (WPA).

Sonu’s remarkable journey is an inspiring tale of resilience, determination, and excellence. A trailblazer in para-sports, he has consistently demonstrated immense talent, earning accolades in several regional, zonal, and national competitions. Some of his notable achievements include:

  1. Gold Medal at the State Level Arm Wrestling Championship (2016), Itanagar
  2. Gold Medal at the Mr Arunachal Bodybuilding Championship (2019), Roing
  3. Gold Medal at the North India Powerlifting Championship (2020), Guwahati
  4. Bronze Medal at the Mr India National Divyang Bodybuilding Championship (2019), Meerut
  5. Bronze Medal at the Eastern India Strength Lifting Championship (2020), Geyzing
  6. Silver Medal at the National Para Powerlifting Championship (2021), Bangalore
  7. Silver Medal in Shotput (F-44 category) at the National Para Athletics Championship (2021), Bengaluru

Techi Sonu’s selection for the Sharjah Championship is a first of its kind as he will be the first para-athlete from Arunachal Pradesh to participate in an international para-athletics event. The state of Arunachal Pradesh recognized him as the founder of para-sports and paved the way for generations to come. Sonu has provided them a platform to display their skills on the world stage.
