Continuing its crackdown against people giving bandh calls, Itanagar Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom said on Saturday that the properties of Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee Chairman Techi Puru, member Tadak Nalo and Nari Shakti member Teli Yamang would be seized under Section 7 of Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (APUAPA) for being on the run or hiding even as a detention order has been issued against them.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that Puru, who was supposed to report at the DC’s office at 12 pm today, did not show up and is absconding.
Section 7 of APUAPA states – A person in respect of whom a detention order has been made has absconded or is concealing himself, so that order cannot be executed, in that case (a) the provision of section 82, 83, 84, and 85 CRPC 1973 shall apply in respect of the said person and his property.
(b) If the said person fails to comply with such direction, he shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year or with fine of rupees fifty thousand or both.
The Itanagar district administration had earlier issued a preventive detention order under Section 3 of the APUAPA against Puru, Nalo, and Yamang for their active participation in proposing the three-day bandh call from May 10 to 12 in Itanagar.
“The Superintendent of Police, capital, Itanagar, on May 20 submitted a letter informing that all necessary efforts have been taken to apprehend Techi Puru, but he is absconding and concealing himself from being detained by police. He keeps on changing his location to avert his detention, and moreover, Techi Puru is still trying to incite the public. His latest act of instigation is seen in his video uploaded to his Facebook account on May 18,” the official release from the DC’s office said.
The DC office has now asked Techi Puru to appear before the district magistrate on or before June 18.
A 3-day bandh call was called by certain groups on social media from May 10 to 12 to protest against the APPSC paper leak case.
The Itanagar DC has requested all the aspirants and students to refrain from believing anything posted on social media.
