Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Khandu announced that the State Games will now be held every year.
Arunachal to host national games, Chief Minister Khandu said while inaugurating the 4th edition of the Arunachal State Games 2025 at the Golden Jubilee Outdoor Stadium in Yupia.
The Arunachal Olympic Association, with full support from the Department of Sports, is organising the event. Competitions in 23 different sports disciplines will take place at various venues across Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) and Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) from April 19 to 22.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Sports Minister Kento Jini and Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain attended the opening ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Khandu announced that the State Games will now be held every year. He expressed pride in Arunachal Pradesh’s growing sports achievements and assured full government support to promote sports in the state. He announced that the Arunachal State Games will now be held every year, instead of every two years, to provide more opportunities for young athletes to shine.
“We are preparing Arunachal to host the National Games in the near future,” CM Khandu stated. He praised the passion, dedication, and hard work of athletes from all districts, calling Arunachal a rising sporting powerhouse.
He reminded the audience that at the recently concluded 38th National Games, athletes from Arunachal won 13 medals, securing the second position among Northeastern states. With a clear vision and renewed energy, the state now aims to be among the top 10 performing states in the 39th National Games, which will be held in Meghalaya.
He also highlighted the ambitious “Mission Olympics” initiative, under which the government is ensuring that athletes receive top-level training in premier centres across India and even abroad, if required. To strengthen this mission, the state is investing in sports infrastructure across districts developing stadiums in Lower Dibang Valley, Lower Siang, Pakke Kessang, and Longding, along with a 25,000-capacity world-class stadium in the state capital.
“Hosting the 77th Santosh Trophy finals was just the beginning,” he said. “We are now preparing to host the SAFF U-19 Championship 2025. A dream is turning into reality.”
