In a bid to exert pressure on the Assam government to concede to the demand for formation of Tirap Autonomous District Council (TADC) including the areas under the Tirap belt, the Tirap Autonomous District Council Demand Committee (TADCDC) on Tuesday organised a motorcycle rally in Tinsukia district.
As per inputs, hundreds of people from various tribal communities participated in the rally that began from Jagun to Margherita Sub Division office, demanding the formation of Tirap Autonomous District Council.
The bike rallyists also submitted a memorandum (MoU) addressed to the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through the Margherita sub divisional administration.
In the memorandum, the rallyists demanded an instant halt to illegal coal business in the sub division with immediate effect.
They further cautioned that they will resort to an economic blockade on February 26 if their demands are not met.
The Tirap belt is being inhabited by various micro tribes including the Singpho, Sema, Tangsa, Khamti, Man-Tai, Turung, Aiton and Khamyang among others.
