The 2nd Arunachal Scouts personnel stationed in Bomdila allegedly went on a rampage attacking a police station and PWD office in Bomdila on November 3.
Allegedly taking law into their hands, the personnel of the Arunachal Scouts also snatched arms, ammunition from the police and also damaged several vehicles.
They also allegedly did not spare police personnel and the Officer-in-Charge of Bomdila police station was also manhandled and threatened with dire consequences.
According to reports, it all started on Friday evening when 2 personnel of the Arunachal Scouts allegedly misbehaved with some women and created nuisance at the venue of the Buddha Mahotsav in Bomdila.
Following this, the Officer-in-charge of Bomdila police station reached the spot along with female police personnel and few CRPF personnel.
However, the two personnel from the Arunachal Scouts allegedly started misbehaving with the female police personnel too following which the duo were brought to the police station.
The army personnels allegedly kept on abusing the cops and even created nuisance at the police station.
The two were later released on the same night following a call from the major of the 2nd Arunachal Scouts.
The next day around 100-150 personnels of the Arunachal Scouts reached the Bomdila police station with 3-4 convoys and vandalized the police station and a PWD office nearby.
Besides manhandling the OC of the PS Ashok Tayeng a colonel of the scouts threatened the OC with dire consequences.
The army personnel also snatched the mobile phones of the police constables filming the incident.
Shockingly West Kameng DC Sonal Swaroop was also reportedly injured in the incident when he was hit by stone.
A total of five vehicles were also vandalized and a civilian who was a bystander was manhandled.
West Kameng SP Raja Banthia said that strict action will be initiated as per law against the erring Arunachal Scouts personnel.
An emergency meeting off all Community Based Organizations of West Kameng was also held today and the house jointly condemned the assault on the DC and police personnel.
A protest rally against the Arunachal Scouts Battalion deployed in Bomdila will be carried out on November 5.
The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union team will also participate in the rally in support of the district administration.
Meanwhile, the Army blamed the alleged highhandedness of the Bomdila police for the entire incident.
A PIB defence wing release claimed that the two Arunachal scouts personnel were picked up by police while they had gone to attend the Buddha Mahotsav and beaten up mercilessly despite informing that they are from the Indian army.
Both the soldiers, the release said, are currently undergoing treatment at the Military hospital in Tenga nursing grievous injuries.
The release added that when the commanding officer tried to diffuse the tension by having a meeting with the local SP the police personnel allegedly misbehaved with the commanding officer leading to the scuffle between both sides.
