Arunachal Pradesh: Onam Gamno bags gold in World Arm Wrestling Championship in Malaysia, CM Khandu congratulates

State's Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein too congratulated Gamno on her remarkable achievement.
Making the nation proud, arm wrestler Onam Gamno from East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh bagged the gold medal in the left arm 52 kg category in the ongoing World Arm Wrestling Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated Onam and said, “Congratulations to @OnamGamno for winning gold at the World Arm Wrestling Championship-23 in Malaysia under the 52Kg category. It’s a remarkable achievement, indeed. You’ve made and #ArunachalPradesh so proud. Best wishes for the future.”
State’s Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein too congratulated Gamno on her remarkable achievement.
“Delighted to learn that Ms Onam Gamno has secured a Gold Medal in the left arm 52 kg category at the World Arm Wrestling Championship, 2023, demonstrating her incredible strength and determination,” the minister wrote on X.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Gamno for this remarkable achievement. Immensely proud of Ms. Gamno’s success and wish her continued success in her future endeavors,” he added.
Earlier, during her departure for the Championship to represent India, CM Khandu had expressed happiness over Onam’s achievement.
On September 20, Arunachal CM shared a congratulatory post on X and wrote, “Where there is a will there is a wrestler! Kudos to Ms Onam Gamno, of Ngopok village in East Siang district as she gets set to represent India at the World Armwrestling Championship 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.”
“It’s commendable that you pursued your passion for wrestling alongside your challenging job as a Nursing Officer”, CM added.
The 25-year-old arm wrestler started her arm wrestling career in January 2022, barely a year ago.
She did her 10th and 12th (Science) standards from IGJ Govt. Higher Secondary School, Pasighat, and did her B.Sc. Nursing from Northeast Nursing College of Health Science, Lekhi, under Papum Pare district in Arunachal.
She was working as a nursing officer at the Guwahati-based Apollo Hospital.
Earlier too, Gamno had won a couple of gold medals in arm wrestling. She stood 3rd in the All India Open Armwrestling Championship, which was held on November 26, 2022, in Jorhat, Assam.
