Struggling to recover from months of losses caused due to the pandemic, local tour operators, owners of home-stays and hotels in Arunachal Pradesh are looking forward to re-opening of the tourism sector.

The Arunachal Himalayan Tourism Development Society on Monday organised a workshop to sensitize the stakeholders to revive tourism at Bomdila in the West Kameng district.

Deputy Commissioner Karma Leki, Deputy Superintendent of Police SN Phaichulupa, District Tourism Officer TW Thongdok and District Transport Officer Sumit Baruah addressed the gathering of stakeholders on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Karma Leki said that Bhalukpong, Bomdila and Tawang are important tourist destinations of the State and as such, it is necessary to revive tourism in these areas. Cautioning stakeholders, the Deputy Commissioner also asked everyone to follow the SOPs issued by the Health Department.

Meanwhile, chairman of the Arunachal Himalayan Tourism Development Society – Tsering Wange, said that COVID-19 has completely ruined the tourism sector of the region, serving a blow to the livelihood of hundreds of people directly or indirectly engaged in the tourism sector.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu had earlier hinted at re-opening the State for tourists after this month.
