After being without a Chairman for over a year, Professor Pradip Lingfa will take charge today as the chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC). Along with him, Professor Ashan Riddi, Col Koj Tari and Rosy Taba will be sworn-in as the Commission’s members.

The swearing-in of the chairman and the members will take place at the Raj Bhawan (Governor’s House) at 11 am today.

The 5 member Commission had been functioning with only one member-Jarken Gamlin and without a chairman since October 2022, after former Chairman Nipo Nabam and three other members resigned from their posts amid the controversy over the question paper leak issue in the APPSC assistant engineer (civil) exams held in 2022.

Three other members of the commission who had resigned are–Tsering naksha, Major general and GS bisht.

The Pema Khandu-led Arunachal cabinet gave the go ahead for the appointments in its meeting on Tuesday.

The Cabinet decision was taken considering the recommendations of the Screening Committee for selection of chairman and member of APPSC and also the Gauhati High Court judgement dated 8th December.

The chairman and members will hold the office for a period of six years from the date on which they join office or till the age of 62.

Meanwhile, the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC), which has been continuously protesting against the APPSC fiasco has expressed dissatisfaction with the development and questioned the way the appointments have been made.

Speaking to media, PAJSC vice chairman Tadak Nalo said, “The state government had earlier assured that all the details of the newly selected board members and chairman will be made available in public domain before their appointment to ensure that the right person gets selected for the commission, but the government did not do so. We were surprised to learn that these people had been appointed and would take office today.”
