During a recent survey conducted by NCERT under the HRD ministry, Arunachal Pradesh had hit a below-par performance in the education sector, as per the ‘Foundational Literacy and Numeracy, National Achievement Survey – 2022’

The major reasons are an acute shortage of trained manpower and poor infrastructure.

The same scenario was evident during a sudden visit by Northeast Live to the District Institute of Education and Training located in Khupa under Anjaw district. The Institute is responsible for providing courses to aspirants who aim to become trained teachers in the future.

The Institute is in a poor shape lacking the required number of lecturers for the sanctioned posts. On top of that, several infrastructure-related issues, the girl’s hostel is in pathetic condition, a shortage of classrooms.

There are only two classrooms while the requirement is 4, besides the centre requires a library and an auditorium. There are shortages even in the number of teachers’ quarters.

The centre was upgraded from District Resource Centre to DIET in 2008, the Institute caters to the need of three districts namely Anjaw, Lohit and Namsai.
