Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu Bats For A Consensus With Assam To Resolve Border Issue

Chief Minister Khandu has directed the regional committees set up to resolve the border dispute with Assam to work closely.
In a bid to expedite efforts to resolve the long standing inter-state border issue with Assam, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu chaired a crucial meeting with the Regional Committees of six Arunachal districts —Pakke Kessang, Papum Pare, Kamle, Lower Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, and Longding.
In the meeting held at the Civil Secretariat, Chief Minister Khandu directed the regional committees to work closely with their Assam counterparts to build consensus towards resolving the boundary matter.
During the meeting Chief Minister Khandu insisted that if consensus can be achieved on ground, than lasting peace between people of both the states in the bordering areas could be ensured.
Khandu during the meeting said it is a golden opportunity for both the states to end the long-standing dispute.
Chief Minister Khandu in a social media post further stated that his government is committed to resolving the 70-year old boundary issue once and for all. CM further directed the regional committees to work closely with the Assam counterparts.
It may be mentioned that the regional committees were formed to expedite the identification and resolution of disputed areas along the 804.1-km inter-state boundary following the historic Namsai Declaration signed on July 15, 2022, where the Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam agreed to end the decades-old boundary issue.
Earlier on April 20, 2023, the state governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh represented by respective Chief Ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma and Pema Khandu had signed a pact in New Delhi in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to resolve the longstanding boundary row.
