In a ceremony held today at the Byorung Bridge site on the Yingkiong-Moying road, Health MinisterAlo Libang commended the dedicated efforts of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Karmayogis from Project Brahmank for their exceptional work in completing the rehabilitation of the bridge.
The reopening ceremony, organized by the BRO, took place at the premises of the bridge and was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including DC Upper Siang Hage Lailang, SP Jummar Basar, DFO A. Boli, and DDMO Beru Dulom.
During the ceremony, Cdr A K Gupta provided a comprehensive briefing to the dignitaries and other officials present, highlighting the repair work undertaken on the bridge.
The District Administration was also requested to monitor traffic and ensure that no oversize or overweight vehicles exceeding the restored load classification of 18 tons are allowed to traverse the bridge, as the DIPR release said.
Byorung Bridge, also known as the Gandhi Bridge, is situated on the Yingkiong-Moying road and was handed over to the BRO in June 2021 by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
It serves as a vital lifeline, connecting the entire Tuting Sub-Division up to the last Indian village, Gelling. However, in June 2022, defects were observed in the bridge, specifically in the bearings on the Yingkiong side, accompanied by damage to the pedestals.
To address the growing concerns and alleviate the distress caused by the bridge’s deterioration, immediate measures were taken. After a thorough assessment, the contract for the repair and rehabilitation of the bridge was awarded to Jainuddin, the contractor responsible for successfully completing the entire rectification work within the stipulated time of 90 days.
Emphasizing the importance of safety, seismic arrestors were installed to provide additional protection. Light vehicle movement was permitted starting from June 12, 2023, and as of June 18, 2023, heavy vehicles with a load capacity of up to 18 tons have been authorized to traverse the bridge.
The reopening of the Byorung Bridge marks a significant milestone for the region, ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and facilitating vital connections for the local communities. The BRO’s relentless efforts, in collaboration with the District Administration, have enabled the timely restoration of this crucial transportation artery.
As traffic resumes on the Byorung Bridge, the District Administration urges all commuters to adhere to traffic regulations and exercise caution while crossing the bridge. The successful completion of the rehabilitation work stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment and capabilities of the BRO and its Karmayogis, who continue to make invaluable contributions to the development and well-being of the region.
