Both Katwang along with his brother Wangtai reached their home late Thursday evening.
Nearly two weeks after being held captive, a village chief and his brother who were abducted by insurgents in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district have been released safely.
The release comes close on the heels of the abductors who are suspected to be members of the NSCN Ang Mai faction, demanding a ransom of Rs 60 lakh for the safe release of Katwang Wangham along with his brother Wangtai Wangsa.
However, it is unclear if the payment of ransom facilitated the release of the duo.
Sources had said that a leader of the NSCN (Ang Mai) had contacted a family member to make the ransom demand.
Katwang Wangham along with his brother Wangtai Wangsa were abducted by NSCN Ang Mai faction on October 29. They reached their home safely late Thursday evening after their release.
Wangham, chief of Kamhua Noksa village in Arunachal’s Longding district, and his brother Wangtai Wangsa, were accompanied by 11 villagers of Kamhua-Noksa, who secured their release from the captivity of the rebel group, reportedly from Nyahsa village in Myanmar.
According to the sources, self-styled Maj. Gen. Somchai Konyak had planned the abduction, which was carried out by a five-member group.
