Army Veterans Extend Assistance to Conflict-Hit Orphans and Widows in Manipur

As many as 58 students and 35 women have been selected for this year’s assistance programme.
The Wings of Hope Trust, formed by a group of individuals including Army veterans and retired officers, distributed assistance under the second phase of its educational support and women empowerment initiative for orphans and widows affected by the ongoing communal conflict in Manipur since May 3, 2023.
As many as 58 students and 35 women have been selected for this year’s assistance programme. The trust handed over the aid during a function held in Imphal.
Speaking to the media, President of The Wings of Hope Trust, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Lourembam Manongba, said that the trust has been consistently working to support those affected by the conflict that began in May last year.
“In the first phase, we provided assistance to 57 students and 31 widows. This time, we have expanded our support to reach more beneficiaries. Our goal is to empower the affected communities through sustained educational support for orphans and skill development for widows,” he said.
He further stated that the trust will continue to organise training programmes in the future to help the affected women generate income and become self-reliant. The initiative aims to provide long-term rehabilitation and empowerment to families devastated by the violence.
