APPSC PAPER LEAK CASE: A TIMELINE OF EVENTS SO FAR

Chief Minister Pema Khandu had called for peace and calm and asked the protestors to meet him today
Hundreds of aggrieved students and their parents and angry public hit the streets of Itanagar on Saturday, February 18 to resume their protest against the investigation into the APPSC question paper leak and appointment of new Chairman and members of APPSC. The Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC) had called for a 12-hour bandh on February 17 to protest the new appointments. The protests turned violent on February 17 leaving 10 protestors injured after police resorted to lathicharge and tear gas shelling.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu had called for peace and calm and asked the protestors to meet him today.
Internet has been shut till tomorrow, February 19, while the bandh has been extended by the public till February 21.
Even as protests continue and normal life remains paralysed in Itanagar, capital city of Arunachal Pradesh, take a look at the time line of events so far.
AUG 26-27, 2022 – Exams held to fill 33 posts of Assistant Engineer (Civil) posts. Exams conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC). A total of 415 candidates appeared in the examination.
AUG 29, 2022 – Gyamar Padung, a candidate, files a police complaint about alleged question paper leak. Padung said that a coaching institute teacher and some APPSC officials were involved.
SEPT 27, 2022 – Itanagar Police hands the case over to the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) of Arunachal Pradesh police.
OCT 9, 2022
– 10 people including APPSC Deputy Secretary and Deputy Controller of Examinations Taket Jerang, teachers, a candidate and his father arrested by Itanagar Police and SIC.
OCT 14, 2022 – APPSC chairman Nipo Nabam resigns on moral grounds
OCT 27, 2022 – Case handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
NOV 27, 2022 – NERIST Students’ Union holds protest rally
DEC 3, 2022 – All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) hold mass referendum rally
DEC 8, 2022 — CBI files charge sheet against 10 accused
DEC 22, 2022 — Arunachal Cabinet approves second departmental probe
DEC 27, 2022 – All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) calls for a 12 hour Itanagar bandh
JAN 28, 2023 – Pan-Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC) organises mass meeting in Itanagar
FEB 7, 2023 – Govt announces names of new Chairman and 3 members of APPSC. Lt Gen (retd) Shantanu Dayal named Chairman, APPSC, Col (retd) Koj Tari, Prof Pradip Lingfa, Rosy Raba names as three new members
FEB 17, 2023 — PAJSC calls for a 12-hour bandh opposing oath taking ceremony of the new APPSC chairman and other members.
FEB 17, 2023 – Protests turn violent, police resort to lathicharge and fire tear gas. At least 10 people injured
FEB 17, 2023 – Govt shuts down internet till Feb 19. PAJSC and public decide to extend bandh till Feb 21
FEB 17, 2023 – CM Pema Khandu appeals for calm and peace and invites protesting public for a meeting at 11 AM at the Secretariat on Feb 18
FEB 18, 2023 – Large number of people hit the streets of Itanagar resuming their protest against the APPSC paper leak and the appointment of the new Chairman and members of the Commission.
FEB 18, 2023 – Situation in Itanagar continues to be volatile, normal life hit.
FEB 18, 2023 – Meeting with CM Khandu begins at around 3PM. Arunachal rights activist Sol Dodum along with few parents of the aspirants attend meeting demanding fulfilment of 13 demands.
