With the beginning of the parliament’s Winter Session and the certainty over the tabling of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill, different students organisations of the region under the banner of the North East Students Organisation (NESO) are holding protests across the Northeast on Monday.

Protests are being carried out in all state capitals across the region. In Assam, the All Assam Students Union would be leading the charge against the Centre’s move to table the controversial bill in the parliament’s winter session.

The student organisation took out a massive protest rally from its office towards the Raj Bhawan. The AASU activists led by Chief Advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya later submitted a memorandum to Governor Jagdish Mukhi.

In Shillong, the Khasi Students Union under the banner of NESO also staged demonstration against the Citizenship Amendment Bill. Various other students and civil society organisations also staged sit-in demonstrations in Shillong.

Meanwhile, women from 3 Ema markets are staging a sit-in demonstration in Imphal. The MANPAC has also called for a total shut down in the state from today midnight till 6 pm of November 19.

The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union has also taken to the streets in protest against the Centre’s move to introduce the revised version of the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
