ANSAM Declares 5-Day Office Picketing from June 23 Against Border Fencing and FMR Scrapping

Appealing to the Naga public, ANSAM has sought their "utmost cooperation and full support" to ensure the success of the movement.

The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has announced a 5-day office picketing across all Naga Hill Districts from June 23 to June 27, in protest against the construction of border fencing and the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border.

In a press release issued yesterday, ANSAM reaffirmed its strong opposition to what it described as the “imposed border fencing amidst the Naga ancestral homeland” and the unilateral termination of the FMR by the Government of India on February 8, 2024. The student body said it would strictly enforce the picketing as part of a united people’s movement to defend the ancestral land and the integrity of Naga families.

The decision was taken during ANSAM’s Presidential Council Meeting held on June 16, at Senapati. The association has directed all its constituent units and subordinate bodies to implement the people’s movement in their respective jurisdictions without fail.

ANSAM has made it clear that it will hold both the Government of India and the Government of Manipur solely responsible in the event of any unwanted incident or situation arising during the course of the agitation.

The student body has also issued a stern warning to individuals, contractors, transporters, agencies, and others who may engage in any form of transportation, supply, storage, or facilitation of raw materials for the construction of border fencing. ANSAM stated that anyone found aiding such activities would be held accountable for any consequences that may follow.

Appealing to the Naga public, ANSAM has sought their “utmost cooperation and full support” to ensure the success of the movement. The association said that this protest is not only about opposing government policies but also about defending the rights, history, and identity of the Naga people.
