Another Honeymoon Tragedy in Northeast, Newlyweds Missing After Vehicle Falls into Teesta; Meghalaya Couple Still Untraced

So far, officials have recovered four identity cards and six mobile phones from the riverbank near the accident site.

Two separate honeymoon trips in Northeast India have ended in heartbreaks. A newlywed couple from Uttar Pradesh is among the eight people missing after a tourist vehicle plunged into the Teesta River in Sikkim on May 29, while another couple from Indore has remained untraced for eleven days in the hills of Meghalaya. Intense search operations continue under harsh weather and terrain.

A honeymoon trip to the North Sikkim turned tragic for Kaushalendra Pratap Singh and Ankita Singh, a newlywed couple from Uttar Pradesh. The couple went missing after their tourist vehicle plunged over 1,000 feet into the fast-flowing Teesta River near Munsithang, along the Lachen–Lachung highway in Mangan district.

The vehicle was carrying 11 tourists from Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and Tripura. The crash killed one tourist, critically injured two others, and left eight people missing, including the Kaushalendra Pratap Singh couple and the driver, Passang Denu Sherpa, a resident of Singhik in North Sikkim.

Despite relentless efforts by rescue teams, the search operation has been hampered by heavy rainfall, strong currents, and rising river levels. So far, officials have recovered four identity cards and six mobile phones from the riverbank near the accident site.

Rescue agencies, including the police and disaster response forces, have intensified search operations. However, with each passing day, the hope of finding survivors grows dim. Grief-stricken family members have rushed to Sikkim, clinging to hope as they await any positive news.

Meanwhile, the couple from Indore – Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi, disappeared in the rain-soaked hills of Sohra (Cherrapunji), Meghalaya. The couple had arrived in Nongriat on May 22 and were last seen on May 23 after checking out of a homestay with a local guide. The next day, their abandoned scooty was found near Sohrarim village. Eleven days have passed, but there is still no clue about the couple’s whereabouts.

Authorities launched a massive search and rescue mission, deploying more than 100 East Khasi Hills police personnel split into four teams. Despite challenging terrain, thick forest, and slippery trails, the teams continue to scour the area.
