Amid Reshuffle Buzz, CM Conrad Sangma Holds Performance Review Meet with Party MLAs

Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma took a mid-term performance audit of both party MLAs and cabinet ministers.
Amid buzz about a cabinet reshuffle, Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP chief, Conrad Sangma held a meeting with 22 of the party MLAs in Shillong on Wednesday.
Though the party maintained that the meeting was just a “casual meeting”, politcal analysts and people within the NPP are of the view that it is more than just a casual meeting, especially when a major cabinet reshuffle on the cards.
According to sources, CM Conrad Sangma took a mid-term performance audit of both party MLAs and cabinet ministers. He reviewed in detail the development work in each constituency represented by the NPP legislators.
The big question that many are asking now is, will CM Sangma, after rating the performance, clip the wings of certain Cabinet Ministers and bring in new faces in his cabinet.
Speculations are doing the rounds that the idea of calling NPP MLAs in the meeting and taking stock of their performance was to weigh on whether few of them can be inducted when the cabinet reshuffle takes place in September.
According to sources, all legislators were asked to present constituency-wise progress reports, highlighting ongoing projects, bottlenecks, and deliverables. Chief Minister Sangma directed his party MLAs to carry out constituency-level assessments to track the impact of state-sponsored schemes and ensure greater grassroots accountability.
According to sources, the mood in the meeting was relaxed, but the focus remained on performance, delivery, and visible governance outcomes.
Deputy Chief Minister and senior party leader Sniawbhalang Dhar later revealed that a similar review session would soon be conducted for NPP MLAs from Jaintia Hills, further reinforcing the idea that this is a systematic evaluation drive. While party insiders insist it was just an administrative interaction, the timing and intensity of the review suggest otherwise.
The scheduled cabinet reshuffle will be the first one in this second term of Conrad Sangma’s government.
