Amid Record Collections, Case Filed Against Allu Arjun After Tragic Stampede at Pushpa 2 Premiere

First Published: 6th December, 2024 14:18 IST

The lack of adequate entry and exit arrangements for the actor and his team significantly contributed to the chaotic situation.

Hyderabad Police has registered a case against Telugu superstar Allu Arjun, his security team and the management of Sandhya Theatre after the tragic incident of stampede at the premiere of his latest movie, Pushpa 2: The Rule, at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening resulting in the death of 35-year-old Revathi and left her nine-year-old son, Teja, critically injured.

Hyderabad Police have charged Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) (causing grievous injuries by dangerous means) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Neither the actor nor the theatre management has made any official statements about the incident at this time.

The chaos unfolded when Allu Arjun arrived unexpectedly at the venue with music director Devi Sri Prasad. His surprise arrival caused an overwhelming surge of fans who rushed to catch a glimpse of the star.

This led to a stampede, with the actor’s security team allegedly pushing people in an attempt to control the crowd, further escalating the panic.

According to police, the lack of adequate entry and exit arrangements for the actor and his team significantly contributed to the chaotic situation.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand confirmed that neither the theatre management nor Allu Arjun’s team had informed authorities in advance about his visit. “Stringent legal action will be taken against those responsible for the chaotic situation that led to a tragic loss of life and injuries,” he said.

Victims and Family’s Response
Revathi, the victim, was reportedly crushed in the stampede alongside her son, Teja. Both were rushed to Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital, where police performed CPR. Teja remains in critical condition, while Revathi was declared dead on arrival. Her family, residents of Dilsukhnagar, have demanded accountability from the theatre management and Allu Arjun, requesting both financial and moral support from the actor.

Production House’s Statement
The production house, Mythri Movie Makers, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), they said, “We are deeply anguished by the tragic event and are committed to standing by the affected family during this difficult time.”

Authorities are continuing to investigate the events surrounding the stampede, particularly the roles of the theatre management and Allu Arjun’s team in failing to implement effective crowd control measures. This tragedy highlights the critical need for stringent safety protocols at high-profile public events to prevent such incidents in the future.
