CM Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his gratitude to AIFF for their efforts and said that Assam government will take steps to take football to the next level in the state
Northeast India which is also known as a football-crazy region is working on all possible means to provide the athletes of the region the best facilities and sports infrastructure aiming high to take football to next level in the region.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) President, Kalyan Chaubey, on Tuesday, April 4 visited Assam and held discussions with the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on football development in the state and the entire northeast region as a whole.
AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey said that Assam has the potential to play a big role in guiding the huge talent pool in the region.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his gratitude to AIFF for their efforts and said that Assam government will take steps to take football to the next level in the state.

On the other hand, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh yesterday chaired a meeting regarding the setting up of Manipur Football Academy, 10 football grounds and expansion of the Main Stadium of Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
CM Biren Singh said that the state government is working on all possible means to provide the best facilities and world-class sports infrastructures for athletes.
It may be mentioned here that Northeast has always been the hub of Indian football and has produced some of India’s finest players and maintained the supply chain for Indian footballers.
There are enough reasons for the region to need better infrastructure, including the region’s youths’ passion for sports and the support of the growth of the sport in the area from the governments of all Northeastern states.
Bollywood actor John Abraham also owns a football club here in Northeast – North East United Football Club (NEUFC).
The Guwahati-based franchise, which was representing the entire area of Northeast India, received a great deal of attention when the Indian Super League (ISL) first started in 2014. Bollywood actor John Abraham acquired most of the stock in the Guwahati team NorthEast United FC.
There is also a football club based in Meghalaya–Shillong Lajong FC that competed in Shillong Premier League with prime objective of improving the declining standard of football in the state, and to spot, train and nurture local talent.
Shillong Lajong was the first club from the North East region of India to rise to prominence in the country.
Mizoram is another football crazy state of region and it has its Aizawl FC, a professional football club based out of Aizawl that participates in I-League, the second tier of Indian football league system.
