Government officials personally distributed the funds across various relief camps, ensuring that every IDP received the aid.

The internally displaced people (IDPs) in Manipur, who have endured 16 months of hardship due to ethnic unrest, have received some respite this festive season.

As promised by Chief Minister N Biren Singh, the Manipur Government extended cash assistance of Rs 1,000 to each IDP for Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba celebrations. Government officials personally distributed the funds across various relief camps, ensuring that every IDP received the aid as a token of solidarity in these trying times.

Despite the festive relief, many recipients have appealed for essential winter supplies like blankets and mattresses as colder months approach.

Since the outbreak of violence in May 2023, over 45,000 people have been displaced across Manipur, making such aid critical to meet their needs. The government’s support has brought temporary relief, but the call for additional assistance underscores the ongoing challenges faced by Manipur’s displaced communities.
