ASsam CM had stayed back in Kokrajhar to attend a sitting of the state assembly, held outside Guwahati for the first time.

Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma would spend five consecutive days in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) in July to personally engage with residents and address their concerns. CM Sarma will be in the BTR from July 1 to 5—July 1 in Udalguri, July 2 in Tamulpur, July 3 in Baksa, July 4 in Chirang, and July 5 in Kokrajhar. The objective of this five day stay in Bodoland according to the Chief Minister is to ensure that every eligible woman receives the benefits of government schemes and also listen to people’s grievances and resolve them.

This will be Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s second stay in Bodoland after his historic stay in Kokrajhar in February this year when he became the first Assam CM in 40 years to stay overnight in BTR. He had stayed back in Kokrajhar to attend a sitting of the state assembly, held outside Guwahati for the first time.

Significantly, ever since Himanta Biswa Sarma assumed charge as the Chief Minister of Assam, he made it a point to stay outside the capital Dispur, and personally engage with residents and address their concerns. This according to Sarma is to try and expand the state capital beyond Dispur. Not only that, he had also instructed his cabinet ministers to go and stay in various districts and make a grassroot connection, addressing the people’s concern and issues.

Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also inaugurated a new secretariat in Dibrugarh in September last year, marking a new era in the state. Dibrugarh got state’s second CM secretariat after Dispur.

Aimed to serve the north and eastern Assam regions, the new Chief Minister’s office in Dibrugarh is supposed to operate at least four days a month. The main objective of setting up the new CM office in Dibrugarh is to decentralise power and provide an easy access to people of the region in relation to the administrative functions and address the issues pertaining to them without traveling to Dispur.

Chief Minister Sarma equally ensured to connect to the people Barak Valley, the hills districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, river island Majuli, Dhurbi in Western Assam and all districts of the state.
In a significant first, it was in September 2021 that Himanta Biswa Sarma cabinet met outside Dispur at Dhemaji. After that Chief Minister continued the trend of holding cabinet meetings outside the state capital.
