After Ahmedabad Plane Crash, Imphal Makes NOC Must for All Tall Structures Near Airport

In the wake of the recent tragic plane crash near Ahmedabad, the Imphal West District administration has issued a strict order making height clearance mandatory for all buildings and structures near the Imphal International Airport. Authorities aim to avoid disasters by enforcing tighter control over construction around the airport.

Issuing the directive on June 24, District Magistrate, Imphal West said that any construction or structure, especially those in the Red Zone of the Color Coded Zoning Map (CCZM), within a 56-kilometre radius of the airport must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for height clearance from the Airport Authority of India (AAI).

To make the process easier, AAI has launched the “No Objection Certificate Application System (NOCAS)”, an online portal accessible at https://nocas2.aai.aero, where applicants can apply for height clearance and check permissible limits using an interactive map.

The district administration warned that any violation, including construction without prior clearance or planting tall trees, will invite strict action under the Aircraft Rules, 1994.

The Imphal International Airport has also opened a direct channel for public queries at apdimphal@aai.aero.

The move is in compliance with the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam, 2024 (Indian Aircraft Act), and the Aircraft (Demolition of Obstructions caused by Building and Trees etc.) Rules, 1994. It also aligns with the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s notification and DGCA civil aviation safety standards to safeguard aircraft operations.

This precautionary step follows heightened aviation safety concerns nationwide and underscores the urgency to protect both civilian lives and aircraft.
