Amjal won the Dhubri seat in 2009, 2014 and 2019.

After losing the Dhubri Lok Sabha seat for the first time in 15 years, AIUDF chief Baduruddin Ajmal said that he accepts people’s mandate.

Former Assam Cabinet Minister and Congress leader Rakibul Hussain defeated Badruddin Ajmal by a record margin of 10,12,476 votes in Dhubri in the Lok Sabha Election 2024, the result of which was declared on Tuesday.

Ajmal congratulated Congress candidate Rakibul Hussain on his victory in the seat and thanked the people of Dhubri for electing him three times from the seat.

Speaking about how the AIUDF’s hold over Dhubri was shattered after 15 years, Ajmal stated that there was an incompatibility otherwise, it would not have been possible.

He further said that his next target is the 2026 Assam Assembly Election, and he will work meticulously to emerge victorious.

“Congress was on the verge of extinction after the BJP took power in India, but this time around it bounced back to win many seats. Likewise, we lost this year, but we will eventually regain power,” said Ajmal.

AIUDF contested for three seats–Dhubri, Karimganj, and Nagaon, but lost in all three seats.

Badruddin Ajmal contested the MP elections for the 4th time this year.

Rakibul Hussain polled 14,71,885 votes, while Ajmal secured 4,59,409 votes.

Amjal won the Dhubri seat in 2009, 2014 and 2019.
