The governor assured that steps to deliver justice to the bereaved families have been taken up and justice will be delivered.
Parents of Luwangbi Linthoingambi Hijam and Phijam Hemanjit Singh, who were abducted and killed by militants in July 2023, have sought Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey’s intervention to ensure that mortal remains of the two students are handed over to them.
Former Minister AK. Mirabai Devi along with family members of the two students met Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum demanding for retrieval of the mortal remains of the deceased students.
The parents demanded stringent punishment against the accused persons who are now under the custody of CBI. They also wanted to know the progress of the investigation.
The governor assured that steps to deliver justice to the bereaved families have been taken up and justice will be delivered.
She asked the DGP over phone to take up further steps to trace the mortal remains of the missing students and also asked the DGP to take inputs from the CBI.
She further arranged a meeting with Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh and the families.
The Manipur Raj Bhavan in a post on X informed that the parents of the students submitted a memorandum demanding the retrieval of the mortal remains of the children and strict punishment for the accused in CBI custody. They also sought an update on the investigation.
It may be mentioned that on September 25 last year, viral photos of the two minors appeared on social media platforms including Facebook, WhatsApp, and X (formerly known as Twitter).
The photos were taken while they were alive and after they were killed. In a follow-up action by the state government, the missing case was handed over to the CBI. In connection with the case, the CBI arrested some persons and took them into custody for interrogation.
