How Raja Raghuvanshi Was Murdered: A breakthrough occurs as a police drone spots Raja’s semi-decomposed body in a deep gorge.

A honeymoon that ended in tragedy. Raja Raghuvanshi wanted to go to Sri Lanka for his honeymoon, but his wife, Sonam, booked tickets for Meghalaya. Raja complied and went to Meghalaya with wife Sonam for their honeymoon. Little did Raja know that the tickets to Meghalaya were actually the tickets for his death.

Here is a timeline of how Raja died and finally after almost 15 days of playing a key role in the crime, Sonam surrendered over 2000 kms away in Uttar Pradesh.

June 2, 2025
A breakthrough occurs as a police drone spots Raja’s semi-decomposed body in a deep gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls.

June 4, 2025
Police confirm Raja was murdered. A new machete, likely used in the crime, is recovered from the scene.

June 5–6, 2025
A blood-stained raincoat is found nearby. Investigators analyse CCTV footage to confirm if it belongs to Sonam. Family members allege local complicity and demand a CBI probe.

June 7, 2025
Fresh CCTV footage shows the couple arriving in Sohra at 12:42 PM on May 22. Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma reassures the public of a thorough probe.

June 9, 2025
After nearly 15 days on the run, Sonam contacts her family. Acting on the tip, police trace her to Kashi Dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur road in Uttar Pradesh. She surrenders at Nandganj police station and is admitted for medical examination before being shifted to a women’s shelter.

In a shocking turn, Meghalaya Police arrest three men—two from Madhya Pradesh and one from Uttar Pradesh—accused of being hired by Sonam to execute the murder.

Confirming the developments, DGP Idashisha Nongrang and CM Conrad Sangma assure that justice will be delivered in what is now one of Meghalaya’s most haunting crime cases.
