6-yr-old Turkish girl pulled out of debris now being treated at Indian Army camp

Rescuers pulled a 6-year-old girl who was stuck inside the debris for over three days in Turkey. The girl, identified as Nasreen, was shifted to an Indian Army camp

The number of fatalities from the devastating earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria has surpassed 19,000, with chances becoming bleak of finding more survivors in the harsh cold weather. However, rescuers have not given up their hopes and continue their race against time.

Rescuers on Thursday pulled a 6-year-old girl who was stuck inside the debris for over three days in Turkey. The girl, identified as Nasreen, was shifted to 16 Parafield hospital of the Indian Army in the disaster-hit nation.

“Nasreen was brought to us by the rescuers today at 10 am. She was not stable. There were crush injuries on her left foot. She was taken care of very well. But now she is stable,” a doctor at the camp said.

In an unprecedented scene, the young Nasreen was seen smiling when India Today team reached the Indian Army hospital in Turkey to inquire about her health.

Nasreen’s mother was also rescued, but unfortunately her father and two brothers are still missing. “There were five members in her family who were all under the debris. Nasreen and her mother have been rescued, while her father and two brothers are still missing. Authorities are looking out for them,” an official at the Indian Army camp said.

Turkey-Syria quake: Toll crosses 19,000

Meanwhile, the death toll in the powerful earthquakes that rocked Turkey and Syria reached 19,300 on Thursday, news agency Associated Press reported. India has sent to Turkey relief materials, a mobile hospital and specialised search and rescue teams in two C-17 Globemaster military transport aircraft to help the country.

Thousands are still believed to be trapped under the rubble. India launched “Operation Dost” to extend assistance to Turkey as well as Syria after Monday’s devastating quakes and aftershocks that toppled buildings and flattened cities.

Army said it has mobilised a medical team of 99 members for earthquake-hit Turkey. The first batch of 45 members from the Indian Army’s Agra-based field hospital has already reached. They are part of a team that will set up a 30-bed field hospital.
