In a major reshuffle, former Home Minister of Rajasthan and senior BJP leader Gulab Chand Kataria has been appointed as the new Governor of Assam by the Rashtrapati Bhavan today.
Besides, Assam, names of 11 other Governors and one Lieutenant Governor for the Union Territory of Ladakh were announced today.
Kataria replaced the current Governor of Assam, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi who assumed his office on 10th October 2017.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated Kataria on being appointed as the new Assam Governor.
“Heartiest congratulations Shri Gulab Chand Kataria ji on being appointed as Hon’ble Governor of Assam. Your vast experience in public service will surely benefit Assam immensely. Looking forward to work with you to take our journey of progress further,” CM Sarma tweeted.
Let Gen Kaiwalya Trivikram Parnaik, PVSM, UYSM, YSM (Retired) has been appointed as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. Parnaik replaced Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra, who has been the governor of Arunachal Pradesh.
BD Mishra has been appointed as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh after President Draupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of Radha Krishnan Mathur.
Lakshman Prasad Acharya has been appointed as Governor of Sikkim. He replaced governor Ganga Prasad Chaurasia who was also the former governor of Meghalaya.
Sushri Anusuiya Uikye, the Governor of Chhattisgarh has been appointed as Governor of Manipur. Uikye replaced La Ganesan, who has been now appointed as the Governor of Nagaland.
Ganesan replaced Prof Jagdish Mukhi who assumed his office on 17th September 2021 as an additional charge.
Phagu Chauhan, the Governor of Bihar has now been appointed as Governor of Meghalaya. Chauhan replaced Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra who assumed office on the 04th October 2022.
Besides these, several Governors have been given additional charge of different states.
The above appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices, said a statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
