Around 55 acres of illegal poppy plantation in the Hill Range of Tengnoupal district in Manipur were destroyed by a combined team of Tengnoupal district police, Narcotics and Affairs of Border team and a team of forest range officers.
The destruction area is expected to yield a total of around 550 kilograms worth Rs 3 crore 85 lakh.
A case has been registered at Tengnoupal police station and further investigation into the matter is underway.
Meanwhile, in a similar operation against illicit poppy cultivation in Manipur, the district administration and district police led by SDO Singngat Jameson Hangsing, NAB and women police from Churachandpur district destroyed another poppy plantation at Bongbal village with a total cultivation area of 8 acres.
