44 Naga youths arrested, jailed in Punjab

The situation came to light through Neeraj Punj, a volunteer with Helping Hands, an NGO in Chandigarh, who raised the issue during an event in Wokha district.

As many as 44 Naga youths have been detained in Punjab for allegedly indulging in faudulent activities.

As per inputs, the youths from Nagaland are currently lodged in jail in Punjab under non-bailable charges.
The youths were arrested on 14th and 15th May 2024 when Punjab Police busted two fake call centres in Patiala.

The situation came to light through Neeraj Punj, a volunteer with Helping Hands, an NGO in Chandigarh, who raised the issue during an event in Wokha district.

Helping Hands, a non-profit organization, founded by founded by IPS officer Robin Hibu that works for the welfare of people particularly from North East India.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Neeraj Punj said that he apprised Nagaland’s Lok Sabha MP Supongmeren Jamir and urged the MP to take the matter to the State Government to facilitate the release of the youths lodged in the jail.

It has also been learnt that some parents are still unaware that their children are in jail for over a month now, while some do not know the legal processes or the gravity of the case.
