In a tragic incident, four individuals sustained injuries when a guard wall collapsed unexpectedly at Guwahati’s busy Beltola market today afternoon.

Among the injured is Anju (Rongpi) Rahang, who was rushed to Agile Hospital but later transferred to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition. The other victims have not been identified yet.

“I had just finished lunch and sat down when the wall suddenly gave way. It was terrifying, people were screaming and running everywhere,” shared a local vendor.

The incident occurred near the heart of the market, a popular spot frequented by vendors and shoppers from across the city. Preliminary reports suggest the collapse was caused by damage to a guard wall situated along the banks of the Bahini River. Eyewitnesses said the sudden collapse of the wall caused panic in the crowded market.

Emergency services responded promptly and transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The incident has sparked concerns about the condition of public infrastructure in the area. Authorities are expected to launch a thorough inquiry into the cause of the collapse.
