The missing family from Nalbari is identified as Nazrul Islam, Najma Begum, and Mukuta Ahmed, residents of Barkhetri’s Borni Balapara area of Nalbari.
Family members of the missing family said that they spoke to them when they were at an Army relief camp post the massive glacial lake burst on October 4 that wreaked havoc in the state damaging houses and property and washing away roads, bridges and highways. They also spoke a day ago, but there has been no communication since.
They are now hoping for the trio’s safe return.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said yesterday that two senior Assam government officials have already been sent to Sikkim to bring back 160 students who are stranded in Rongpo and Majitar in Sikkim.
While many tourists have been rescued and safely evacuated, there are many more stranded in different parts of Sikkim.
As many as 150 people are still missing, and the death toll has gone up to 43. Over 2,413 individuals have been rescued from various parts of the state, but nearly 30,000 people are still affected by the deluge.
Air evacuations from Lachen and Lachung could not be carried out due to adverse weather conditions.
