28 BJP MLAs Likely to Meet in Imphal Tomorrow to Adopt Resolution on New Leader

According to sources, former CM N Biren Singh and Speaker Th Satyabrata have not been invited for the meeting.

A political blitzkrieg is underway in Manipur to form a popular government in the state. In a fresh bid towards installation of a popular government in the state, 28 BJP MLAs are likely to meet at a hotel in Imphal tomorrow. The meeting is likely to adopt a resolution stating that the MLAs would accept any new leader chosen by the BJP high command in New Delhi to lead the popular government in the state.

According to sources, former Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Speaker Th Satyabrata have not been invited for the meeting, reason for which is not immediately known. The BJP has a total of 37 MLAs in the 60-member house, of which 7 belong to the Kuki-Zo community, and therefore are unlikely to attend the meeting. According to sources the initiative for tomorrow’s meeting to land their weight behind the high command has been taken by Th Ibomcha, Sapam Kunja Kishore and Karam Shyam, all party MLAs.

It may be mentioned that there is a growing demand from various quarters for installation of a popular government in the state with some women’s groups also holding protests and setting a deadline of May 30 for the BJP MLAs either to form a popular government or resign.

Earlier yesterday, 10 NDA MLAs including BJP, NPP and Independent legislators, called on Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal, and urged for the formation of a popular government in the crisis-hit state.

Also yesterday, former Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokcham Satyabrata Singh was urgently summoned to New Delhi by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

In such a scenario it would be interesting to see how tomorrow’s meeting of the BJP MLAs goes.
