2 Manipur MLAs resign from official positions in 4 days citing ‘no responsibility given’

BJP MLA Th. Radheshyam had resigned on Apr 13 as Advisor to Manipur CM and today BJP MLA Karam Shyam resigned as Chairman, Tourism Corporation of Manipur

Two resignations in 4 days. First on April 13, Thursday, Manipur BJP MLA from Heirok constituency, Thokchom Radheshyam Singh, tendered his resignation as Advisor to Manipur CM citing no responsibility given as the reason for his resignation.

Four days later, on April 17, another Manipur BJP MLA, Karam Shyam has resigned from the position of Chairman, Tourism Corporation of Manipur citing the same reason – no responsibility given.

The resignations have come just when N Biren Singh government celebrated its first year anniversary in office. This is Biren Singh government’s second term in office after winning the Assembly elections of 2017.
Two resignations in quick succession is raising many questions — If everything is well in Manipur BJP? Is all well in the N Biren Singh-led Manipur government. Is CM N Biren Singh in control of things in his state? Are these early signs of dissension?

MLA Thocksom Radheshyam had mentioned in his Facebook post announcing his resignation said that on April 1 he had called the Chief Secretary to express his helplessness.
“I’ve been mentally disturbed since the past few days. Different sections of people ranging from my workers and pensioners have been calling me to ease their grievances in coordination with the CM since I hold the post of advisor to CM. They highlighted various things such as bad road conditions, non-release of pension benefits among others. The government is engaged in different activities like hosting Miss India and different festivals and others. That’s also fine with the people. But at the same time, they want their grievances to be addressed and sought initiatives from my side as an advisor to CM as well. But, I’m helpless since I’m not entrusted with any power or responsibility. I even called up the Chief Secretary on April 1 highlighting my helplessness. Since I’m not able to address the people’s grievances, I decided to resign on moral ground so that I can focus on developmental works in my constituency and coming LS elections as well,” MLA Radheshyam said in his video message regarding his resignation.
