2 From Assam Dies in Arunachal Landslide Near Pine Grove in Ziro; Death Toll Rises To 9

With these incidents, the cumulative death toll due to landslides and rain-induced disasters in Arunachal Pradesh has risen to nine.

In a tragic turn of events, relentless rainfall has triggered deadly landslides across Arunachal Pradesh, claiming nine lives within just 24 hours.

Late last night, a major landslide struck the Cabbage Garden area and a nearby restaurant near Pine Grove in Ziro, Lower Subansiri district. Two individuals a man and a woman from Lakhimpur, Assam lost their lives.

Both were working at the restaurant when the hillside gave way.

Their bodies were recovered by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and residents, and handed over to their families, confirmed DySP Ojing Lego.

Earlier, a heart-wrenching tragedy occurred on NH-13 between Bana and Seppa in East Kameng district. A landslide swept a Brezza car carrying two families into a deep gorge, resulting in seven deaths.

Among the victims were Sankar Aka (also known as Sanju Badi, 32), his wife Tasum Badi, and their children Kachung Badi (5) and Nicha Badi (2). The second family, led by Sichi Yame, included a pregnant woman and two children, all of whom perished in the disaster.

A nearby Sumo vehicle was also affected by the landslide but narrowly escaped the worst. No injuries were reported from that vehicle.

With these incidents, the cumulative death toll due to landslides and rain-induced disasters in Arunachal Pradesh has risen to nine.

Expressing grief, Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung took to Facebook, urging citizens to avoid night travel during the monsoon. “My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families… May the departed souls rest in peace. Om Shanti Shanti,” he wrote.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the region remains on high alert due to ongoing rainfall.
