14 Manipur BJP MLAs Meet State Party President In Imphal, Says Formation of Popular Govt Depends on Party High Command

Brisk politicking continues in Manipur to form a popular government in the state. A day after 28 BJP MLAs met to discuss the issue, at least 14 BJP MLAs met State BJP President Sharda Devi and other party leaders at the BJP headquarters in Imphal on Saturday and discussed the matter.
The BJP Legislators apprised the State President about the expectations of the people to have a democratically elected popular government in the state at the earliest. Speaking on the developments, MLA Kh Ibomcha stated that things will proceed as per the Constitution of India and constitution of the party. He added that it depends on the centre when to form a Government in Manipur. MLA Ibomcha said “To form government depends on the Centre. We are preparing, we are discussing. We will proceed as per the constitution of India and as per the constitution of BJP. We are likely to meet our Central leadership.”
Talking to Northeast Live about the meeting, Manipur BJP President Sharda Devi said “Our MLAs are united. A government which will be formed now should be one which can focus on development, take initiative to restore peace in Manipur. So this meeting is to discuss such issues.”
State Vice President of BJP, Chidananda reiterated that the formation of the popular government rests on the party’s high command. Chidananda said “The formation of the popular government depends on the wisdom of the party high command. Hope the high command will consider very seriously the wisdom of people of Manipur, wisdom of our party, especially our party MLAs. I hope the party high command will take appropriate decision at the right time. It is the wish of our MLAs and the people of Manipur that a popular government should be formed at the earliest.”
Today’s meeting was attended by BJP MLAs Y Khemchand, Dingpu Kamei, Shyam Karam, Joykishan, brojen, Ragumani, Radheshyam, Govindas, Ibomcha, Robindro, Premchandra, Keba, Deben and Sapam Ranjan.
The meeting also discussed steps taken to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
On 29 May, 10 BJP legislators met Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan and urged for the formation of a popular government in the crisis hit state, bringing an end to the President’s Rule in the state.
Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February 13 after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned on February 9.
