As many as 1200 Bru families will be resettled in Tripura by October 30, informed Chief Minister Biplab Deb while speaking to mediapersons on Monday. He added that the remaining 5000 odd families will also be given accommodation within the next six months.
Deb also informed that the Centre had sanctioned Rs 600 crore for Bru resettlement and more funds will be released in the coming months.
After the State government agreed to resettle 6,740 families from among the 37000 people, Centre has provided a package of Rs 600 crore for their rehabilitation. Around 300 houses are ready and 1200 families will be resettled by October end, Deb said.
Deb added that the state government will take the resettlement of the rest of the displaced families forward within the next 5-6 months.
Deb further stated that he held detailed deliberations with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the review meeting held in New Delhi last week. He informed that Shah reviewed the progress of rehabilitation and resettlement of the displaced Brus in the state.
