10 Rohingyas Arrested in Tripura Near India-Bangladesh Border; Women and Children Among Detainees

Inspector Taruni Jamatia, Second Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Irani Police Station, confirmed the arrests to reporters.
Acting on a confidential tip-off, the police in Tripura’s Unakoti district detained ten Rohingyas, including six adult women, a 50-day-old infant, and three children aged one, four, and seven. The raid was conducted at a house in the Safrikandi area under Irani Police Station’s jurisdiction on Saturday.

She stated that police apprehended the individuals during the raid and brought them to the station for questioning. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the detainees were from Myanmar and were carrying a refugee card issued in Myanmar.
The detainees reportedly began their journey from Hyderabad on January 13, traveling by train. They arrived at Dharmanagar railway station in Tripura on January 16, where a local middleman escorted them to his house in the Safrikandi area. The group had allegedly been staying there for two days near the India-Bangladesh international border, intending to cross over into Bangladesh.
However, the homeowner and middleman managed to evade capture during the raid. Police have launched a search operation to apprehend them.
A case has been registered against the detainees under the Foreigners Act and the Passport Act. All ten were presented before the Kailashahar court on Saturday afternoon.
