Manipur NDA MLAs Meets Guv: The MLAs urged the Governor to take steps to restore a democratically elected government.

Brisk politicking is once again taking place in Manipur. After former Chief Minister N Biren Singh met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla yesterday, 10 NDA MLAs including BJP, NPP and Independent legislators called on Governor Bhalla today at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal, and urged for the formation of a popular Government in the crisis-hit state.

The MLAs urged the Governor to take steps to restore a democratically elected government. Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February 13 after Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned on February 9. The MLAs stated that people are eagerly waiting for President’s Rule to end and an elected government comes to power.

Talking to journalists after the meeting, MLA Nishikant Sapam said the delegation submitted a formal request, expressing the public’s strong desire for an elected government.

“It’s been now three-and-half months that there has been President’s Rule and now majority people of Manipur want a popular government installed. That’s the main reason why we met the Governor today. We also discussed the functioning of President’s Rule will not be the same as having a popular government. We discussed a few hiccups, and the law-and-order situation. Primarily and basically the moot point of the meeting was to appeal to the Governor about the popular government. The Governor’s response was very nice. We submitted a paper that we have signed. The NDA MLAs are keen to have a popular government for the sake of Manipur,” Sapam said.

Sapam stressed that President’s Rule cannot be as effective as a popular government. Sapam said the people’s support is key and that everyone wants a government that works for the welfare of Manipur.

Meanwhile, Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh has left for New Delhi today. Sources said he has been summoned by Union Home Minister Amit Shah for an urgent meeting.
