Five nations with most wins in FIFA Women’s World Cup

Japan had another chance to win the World Cup in 2015 as they reached the final but were defeated by the USA.

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is underway with 32 countries vying for the prestigious title.The showpiece event, which is held once every four years, is in its ninth edition this year. The US, led by Alex Morgan, lifted the title, the country’s fourth, last year.Here’s a look at the Top-5 teams with the most wins in the FIFA Women’s World Cup;

United States of America

The USA has been the most successful team in FIFA Women’s World Cup. They have won the title on four different occasions. The USA won the inaugural tournament in 1991. They again won the title in 1999. After a gap of a few years, the USA won two back-to-back World Cup titles in 2015 and in 2019.

Germany

German Women’s football team tasted success at the FIFA World Cup. They have won the prestigious title two times. First in 2003 and then in 2007.

Japan

Japan’s Women’s football team won the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2011. Japan had another chance to win the World Cup in 2015 as they reached the final but were defeated by the USA.

Norway

In 1995 Norway secured its maiden FIFA Women’s World Cup title defeating Germany in the final. Norway finished as runners-up in 1991 losing to the USA in the final.

Sweden

Sweden’s Women’s football team haven’t won the World Cup yet but they have come closer to clinching it on several occassions. In 2003 Sweden made it to the final but was defeated by Germany. In 1991, 2011 and in 2019 Sweden finished in the third spot in FIFA Women’s World Cup.
