Besides, the KSU leader also backed for the inclusion of the Khasi and the Garo language in the 8th Schedule and issues concerning the youths.
The tone is set for the Meghalaya elections, but what are the expectations of the all influential Khasi Students Union?
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, KSU president Lambokstar Marngar, once again batted for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) as well as a permanent solution to the inter-state border issue with Assam.
Besides, the KSU leader also backed for the inclusion of the Khasi and the Garo language in the 8th Schedule and issues concerning the youths.
When asked as to what the KSU seeks, regardless of whoever comes to power, Lambokstar said,”we are very much concerned with the pending issues like the implementation of the ILP in Meghalaya, inclusion of the Khasi and the Garo language in the 8th Schedule, the border issue.”
“And at the same time the policy for the youths and transparency for the recruitment in each and every department of Meghalaya,” Lambokstar added.
Since Meghalaya has been witnessing a fractured mandate, the KSU leader’s response was also sought on whether the students’ body feels that all issues will be addressed. To this Marngar replied, “Coalition does not matter… The important thing is their (parties) will and their commitment to the people of the state of Meghalaya i.e. the implementation of the long pending demand which is the implementation of the ILP in Meghalaya.”
The KSU president also wondered as to why the Centre is allegedly delaying the implementation of ILP in the state.
Marngar said, “In 2019 December the state government has already passed the resolution and the CM has himself sent it to the central government. We don’t know what is the problem with the central government for the implementation of ILP in the state of Meghalaya.”
Lambokstar Marngar while responding to a query on the prevailing inter-state border issue with Assam said people in the bordering areas are not happy with the developments after the conclusion of the first phase of border talks between both the states.
Marngar said, “I am not saying this personally, these are the views expressed by the people residing in those areas. In fact, they are not happy with the first phase.”
The KSU leader added,” We have already expressed this to the government and we leave it to the wisdom of the government on how to tackle this issue.”
