Speculation intensifies regarding who might step into his formidable shoes.
Ratan Tata, the former chairman emeritus of Tata Group, was a beacon of business acumen and philanthropy in India. With an estimated net worth of Rs 3,600 crore, he guided the conglomerate through decades of remarkable growth and diversification.
Known for his modest lifestyle and deep commitment to generous initiatives through the Tata Trusts, Tata’s passing on Wednesday has raised questions about the future leadership of the vast Rs 34 lakh crore Tata Group.
As speculation intensifies regarding who might step into his formidable shoes, several front-runners have emerged in the succession race:
Noel Tata: Born from Naval Tata’s second marriage, Noel is seen as a strong contender to inherit the Tata legacy due to his familial connections. His three children Maya, Neville, and Leah are also viewed as potential successors.
Neville Tata: Currently leading Star Bazaar under Trent Limited, Neville’s business acumen positions him as a strong candidate for future leadership within the Tata Group. He is married to Manasi Kirloskar.
Leah Tata: With a focus on hospitality, Leah has been educated at IE Business School in Spain and has played a significant role in the Indian Hotel Company and Taj Hotels, aiding the expansion of the Tata Group’s hospitality sector.
Maya Tata: A key player within the Tata Group, educated at Bayes Business School and Warwick University. She has been important in the Tata Opportunities Fund and Tata Digital, contributing significantly to the launch of the Tata Neu App, showcasing her strategic leadership skills.
Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus, Tata Sons, passed away on Wednesday evening at south Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. He was 86.
The last Rites of the chairman emeritus of one of India’s biggest conglomerates will be performed at Worli crematorium.
Tata, born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, is the Chairman of Ratan Tata Trust and Dorabji Tata Trust, two of the largest private-sector-promoted philanthropic trusts in India. He was the Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group, from 1991 until his retirement in 2012.
He was honoured with the country’s second-highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, in 2008.
